Barry College + Coleg Glan Hafren = Cardiff and Vale College
In August 2011 Barry College and Coleg Glan Hafren, two established and successful Further Education (FE) colleges merged to create Cardiff and Vale College / Coleg Caerdydd a’r Fro, one of the largest and most exciting colleges in the country.
The merger is part of an innovative vision, set out by the Welsh Government, to transform post-16 education and training in the Capital Region of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan.
Salary is payable monthly in arrears by BACS payment and annual increments will be awarded where appropriate. Cost of living increases are negotiated nationally.
The College operates two Superannuation Schemes:
Teachers’ Pension Scheme (for Lecturers– As a member of the Teachers Pension Scheme you will pay 6% of your salary and the College will contribute 13.5%.
Local Government Pension Scheme (for Business Support Staff) -As a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme you will pay 6% of your salary and the College will contribute 15%.
The College operates a generous holiday entitlement scheme which includes entitlement to normal renumeration for all Bank Holidays and Public Holidays normally observed in England and Wales.
If you are absent from work due to sickness or injury, you will be eligible to receive sick pay in accordance with the College’s Sickness Policy.
Training and Development
The College recognises that its greatest asset is its staff. It is committed to an ongoing programme of professional development, training and retraining to enable employees to carry out their roles effectively and with confidence. Without such continuous development, it is acknowledged that it would not be possible to meet corporate and departmental objectives.
Free Car Parking
On all College sites, staff and students have access to free car parking facilities.
The College has a childcare centres on-site to care for children of staff and students at the College. The childcare Centre offers quality childcare for children from 11 weeks through to 5 years of age at reasonable prices.
The College has many facilities to which staff as well as students have access to such as the Gym, Hair and Beauty Salons, Glamorgan Suite – Restaurant as well as canteens and shops.
Cardiff and Vale College is spread across a number of campuses in both the Vale of Glamorgan and Cardiff.
Cardiff and Vale College has specialist training facilities across 11 sites, ranging from Trowbridge in the East of Cardiff to ICAT in Rhoose. Across Cardiff and Vale College sites there are plenty of extra services for staff and students. These include canteens, coffee shops, libraries, learning centres, drop in computer rooms, skills support centres and shops. There are also printing and photocopying facilities open from morning to evening.
